Robert K. Champion moves audiences with his haunting guitar music and compelling stories of life, love and loss across the country. With guitar in hand, and a cup of tea always by his side, Robert shares unique moments of song and storytelling, enthralling audiences with his warmth, poignancy and humour.
A Gubrun, Kokatha and Mirning man now living and making music in Narrm (Melbourne), Robert performs original compositions of contemporary folktales and country ballads. Typically joined by the finest folk and country musicians, Robert and his band weave striking melodies with captivating tales.
Robert’s legendary guitar playing has supported the performances of Warren H Williams, Nancy Bates, Glenn Skuthorpe, Shellie Morris, Coloured Stone and Dave Arden. He has toured nationally as a solo artist as well as with his band The MERRg and as part of other acts such as the Mission Songs Project, Desert Fringe Super Band, the Black Jacks and the Stray Blacks.
In 2013 Robert released his EP, ‘This Road Is Too Long’, and in 2018 he released his long-awaited debut solo album ‘1977’.
